Southeastern Illinois College (SIC) Volleyball started their season on a strong note, securing a 3-0 victory over St. Louis Community College (STLCC) during the annual Falcon Feast Tournament on August 24, 2024. The Falcons won with set scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-19.
The tournament featured other participants, including Wabash Valley College and East Central College. Despite an early setback, where SIC fell to East Central in the day's first game, the Falcons bounced back impressively with their win against STLCC.
Sophie Bormann was a key player in the victory, achieving a hitting percentage of .452, with 11 digs and four aces. Peyton Garrard also played a vital role, averaging 2.43 assists per set. SIC's solid serving, with a 91.7% serve percentage, and their superior performance in hitting percentage (.207 vs. .061) and aces (7 vs. 1), were crucial in securing the win.
Though STLCC recorded more digs overall (48 to SIC's 42), the Falcons' consistency, particularly in their serve receive rating (2.10 vs. 1.64), helped them clinch the match.
SIC will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to John A. Logan College, with the game set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
