Over the weekend, the SIC men's and women's bowling teams traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the annual Columbia 300 Western Shootout held at Royal Pin Western Lanes for their first event of the 2023-2024 season.

The SIC Women's Bowling Team finished 13th in a pool of 27 varsity teams from across the Midwest, recording a total of 8,266 pins on the weekend.

They were led by sophomore Paige Anderson who totaled 1092 pins for a tournament average of 182 pins. Abbie Graham recorded 1087 pins for a tournament average of 181.2. Kalli Lazorchak, Callie Russell, and Renee Porter also had strong showings with 1068, 1009, and 983 pins respectively.

The women's team, led by Coach Jeff Crowley, knocked down a total of 5,239 pins on Saturday in the six traditional games. In 16 Baker Games on Sunday, the team recorded 3,027 pins for a tournament average of 189.2.

The SIC Men came away with a 28th place finish overall out of 32 teams competing. The field of 32 featured both two-year and four-year institutions and was headlined by eventual first place finisher Purdue University.

The men's team was led by Conner Bennett who finished with a total of 1263 total pins and a tournament average of 210.5 through 6 games bowled.

Falcon newcomer Jayden Vorhes also bowled 6 games finishing with 1148 total pins for a tournament average of 191.3.

As a team, Coach Doug Cottom's crew came away with 5,593 pins in the six traditional games before returning to the lanes on Sunday for 16 baker games where they recorded a total of 2979 pins for a game average of 186.2.

The SIC bowling teams will now have a quick turnaround to prepare for their next outing as they head to Beavercreek, Ohio for the Orange and Black Classic hosted by Pikeville University this weekend.
